Koren Freel is an author from Camas, Washington. Her debut novel, The Ginhouse Hollow, is inspired by real events tangled within her family’s roots and weaves together an imaginative tale of humor and heartbreak that shows how the secrets we keep shape who we become.
Koren enjoys traveling with her family of six to sunny destinations and hiking the waterfall trails of the Columbia River Gorge. Her regular haunts include Target, brew pubs, thrift stores, and wherever her dogs Roxy and Molly roam. And when her life turns sideways, Koren’s Keep it Golden Girl blog captures every humorous detail with a nod to the cheesecake-loving fab four of Miami.
Fun Facts
My go-to Starbucks order is a bacon gouda egg sandwich, a pink cake pop, and either an almond milk vanilla latte (hot or iced) or a sweet black iced tea.
I have three tattoos. One is in honor of publishing my first novel. It’s on the back on my neck, and is a magnolia bloom with a fine-line bird flying from the petals. One of my kids drew it, so it’s extra special.
I ziplined through the Sierra Madre Jungle (Puerto Vallarta) and repelled down a waterfall’s cliff. That’s probably the most insane thing I’ve ever done. And as much fun as it was at the time, I will never do that again!
In 2024, I won my battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer after 12 rounds of chemo. If you’re interested in that journey, check out my Vlog. I’m currently happy and healthy and living life to the fullest.
